Bill Cobbs, Renowned Hollywood Actor, Passes Away at 90

Renowned actor Bill Cobbs, known for his roles in films such as “Demolition Man,” “That Thing You Do!,” and “Air Bud,” has passed away at the age of 90. Cobbs died peacefully at his home in California, as confirmed by his family.

Cobbs’ brother, Thomas Cobbs, announced the news on his Facebook page, describing the late actor as a “beloved partner, big brother, uncle, surrogate parent, godfather and friend.” Cobbs recently celebrated his 90th birthday surrounded by his loved ones.

With a career spanning five decades, Cobbs had nearly 200 film and TV credits to his name. He got his start on the stage, appearing in Broadway productions like “Black Picture Show” and “The First Breeze of Summer” in the mid-1970s. Cobbs later transitioned to the big screen, appearing in a number of beloved films, including the 1993 action-thriller “Demolition Man” and the Oscar-nominated 1996 classic “That Thing You Do!”

The 1990s were a particularly dynamic period for Cobbs, as he appeared alongside stars like Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner in the 1992 Oscar-nominated thriller “The Bodyguard.” In 2020, he won a Daytime Emmy for his outstanding limited performance in the children’s series “Dino Dana.”

Cobbs’ passion for acting never waned throughout his long and successful career. In a 2012 interview, he expressed his joy in the craft, saying, “I enjoy what I do, I really enjoy it. It’s exciting to have a project and work on it and see it come to fruition, so I can find joy doing this so much.”

The veteran actor’s final acting credit came in 2023, when he appeared in the TV mini-series “Incandescent Love.” Cobbs’ legacy as a beloved and respected figure in the entertainment industry will undoubtedly continue to inspire future generations of actors.
