Besiktas has officially named Giovanni van Bronckhorst as their new manager, succeeding Fernando Santos, who was dismissed in April. The Dutch manager has signed a two-year contract with an option for a third year.
Van Bronckhorst, 49, steps into the role following a tumultuous season that saw Besiktas part ways with four managers. Fernando Santos, 69, was the most recent to leave, succeeded by interim manager Serdar Topraktepe, under whom the team secured the Turkish Cup.
A former Netherlands international, Van Bronckhorst began his managerial career with Feyenoord in 2015, a club where he also started and concluded his playing days. His tenure at Feyenoord was marked by significant achievements, including winning the KNVB Cup in his first season and securing the Eredivisie title in his second.
Following three successful years at Feyenoord, Van Bronckhorst moved to the Chinese Super League to manage Guangzhou for a season. In November 2021, he took over as Rangers manager, succeeding Steven Gerrard. During his time with Rangers, he led the team to the Europa League final, won the Scottish Cup, and achieved Champions League qualification for the first time in 12 years. Despite these accomplishments, he was dismissed a year into his tenure.
