Raphael Varane has announced his departure from Manchester United at the end of the season, bidding farewell after three impactful years at Old Trafford.
The esteemed defender joined the club from Real Madrid in August 2021, making a memorable debut in front of our home supporters at the Theatre of Dreams during the victory over Leeds United on the opening weekend.
Varane’s tenure has been marked by his exemplary skill and veteran leadership, appearing in 93 matches for the team. His contributions were instrumental in securing our first major trophy in six years, with the triumphant 2023 Carabao Cup final at Wembley Stadium, where Newcastle United was defeated 2-0 under the guidance of Erik ten Hag, with Varane displaying his expertise alongside Lisandro Martinez.
While Varane has notably found the net twice for the Reds, including a crucial goal against Brentford and another securing a win against Wolves in the 2023/24 campaign opener, his steadfast defensive prowess remains his hallmark, showcasing his undeniable quality since his arrival.
Though sidelined due to injury since the defeat to Chelsea on April 4, the 31-year-old is diligently working towards recovery and aims to return to action before the season concludes, with upcoming Premier League fixtures against Newcastle United and Brighton & Hove Albion, and the Emirates FA Cup final against Manchester City on May 25.
United extends its gratitude to Varane for his dedicated service and wishes him success in his future endeavors.
Merci, @RaphaelVarane 🇫🇷❤️#MUFC
