PPSSPP has brought PSP emulation to iOS devices, offering users a chance to experience classics like Lumines on their iPhones and iPads. Developed by Henrik Rydgård, this emulator has finally made its way to the App Store after more than a decade of development. While it’s free to download, there are some limitations due to Apple’s restrictions, such as the absence of Just-in-Time recompilers. Despite these limitations, Rydgård assures that iOS devices are generally capable enough to run most PSP games smoothly.
Some features, like RetroAchievements and Vulkan graphics API support, are currently disabled but will be reintroduced in future updates. The emulator supports iOS 12 and up, iPadOS 12 and up, and is also compatible with the Vision Pro. While the app is free, Rydgård plans to release a paid version for $4.99 soon, primarily aimed at supporting his ongoing development efforts. So, if you’re eager to dive back into classics like Valkyria Chronicles II or Patapon, PPSSPP on iOS might be worth exploring.
