Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has confirmed that two new ‘Pirates of the Caribbean‘ movies are currently in development, including a female-centric spin-off starring Margot Robbie.
Over recent years, speculation about the future of the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ franchise has been rife. Reports have mentioned a reboot with an entirely new cast and the possibility of a Margot Robbie-led film.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Bruckheimer clarified, “It’s two different movies. We hope to get them both made, and I think Disney agrees they really want to make the Margot one, too.”
The reboot script is being penned by Jeff Nathanson, while Christina Hodson is writing the script for the Margot Robbie film. Craig Mazin, creator of ‘The Last of Us’, developed the story for the reboot alongside original screenwriter Ted Elliot. Although the Hollywood strikes caused delays, Nathanson is now back working on the script.

Margot Robbie, in a 2022 Vanity Fair interview, shared her excitement about the project: “We had an idea and we were developing it for a while, ages ago, to have more of a female-led — not totally female-led, but just a different kind of story — which we thought would’ve been really cool, but I guess they don’t want to do it.”
Regarding Johnny Depp’s involvement, Bruckheimer indicated that the new films would feature different actors but didn’t rule out Depp’s return. “I love him. He’s a good friend. He’s an amazing artist and he created Captain Jack,” Bruckheimer said.
