Opera users already enjoy the advantages of OpenAI’s large language models (LLMs) through the browser’s in-built AI assistant, Aria. Now, Opera has collaborated with Google to integrate its Gemini AI models into Aria. Opera’s Composer AI engine can interpret user intent from inquiries and subsequently decide the most suitable model for each specific task, according to the company.
Google declared Gemini as the “most capable model [it] has ever built” when it officially unveiled the LLM last year. Following that, Google introduced Gemini-powered features across its products and incorporated the Gemini AI chatbot directly into Android. Opera suggests that the integration of Gemini will enable its browser “to provide its users with the most current information, at high performance.”
Opera’s partnership with Google also allows Aria to introduce new experimental features through its AI Feature Drop program. Users possessing the Opera One Developer version of the browser can test a new image generation feature powered by Google’s Imagen 2 model free of charge.
For instance, in the image above, the user instructed Aria to “generate an image of a dog vacationing on a beach, sipping a drink.” Moreover, using Google’s text-to-audio model, users can hear Aria respond in a conversational tone. If testing proceeds smoothly, Opera might introduce these features to all users, although modifications may still occur based on feedback from early adopters.
