Eminem Drops Provocative New Single ‘Houdini’ from Upcoming Album

Eminem has released the first single from his highly anticipated album, “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce).” Dropped at midnight on Friday, the track “Houdini” features a catchy, yet edgy vibe, anchored by the melody of the Steve Miller Band’s 1982 hit “Abracadabra” and echoing elements of his 2002 classic “Without Me.” The song showcases Eminem’s signature sharp wit and biting commentary as he reflects on his past and present.

The self-proclaimed “lyrical technician” ponders, “sometimes I wonder what the old me would say if he could see how [expletive] is today,” eventually telling listeners, along with Jimmy Iovine, Dr. Dre, and even his own children, to F-off. True to his style, Eminem doesn’t hold back, including a provocative double entendre about Megan Thee Stallion and a collaboration that references the 2020 incident involving Tory Lanez.

Eminem, 51, has orchestrated a detailed rollout for his 12th studio album. He announced the album during the NFL draft in April, leveraging his Detroit hometown to tease fans with a video styled as an episode of “Unsolved Mysteries.” The teaser posed the question, “Who killed Slim Shady?” and featured Eminem’s friend 50 Cent humorously calling him “a psychopath.”

Directed by Rich Lee, the music video for “Houdini” is filled with nostalgic references, including callbacks to “Without Me” and the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards. It features cameos from Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Pete Davidson, comedian Shane Gillis, and others. Eminem dons his Robin costume from the “Without Me” video, alongside numerous wannabe Slim Shadys. Before releasing the track, Eminem teased fans with a video featuring magician David Blaine, where he humorously claimed, “Well, for my last trick, I’m gonna make my career disappear
