This summer, Chris Hemsworth known for his role as Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will lend his voice to the animated film “Transformers One.” The movie explores the origin story of the friendship-turned-rivalry between Optimus Prime, the leader of the heroic Autobots, and Megatron, the villainous leader of the Decepticons. Hemsworth brings his star power to the voice of Optimus Prime, a character traditionally voiced by Peter Cullen in the classic “Transformers” cartoons and live-action films.
In addition to his voice role, Hemsworth has been cast in an upcoming Transformers/G.I. Joe crossover movie, which has yet to be given an official title. The project was announced at CinemaCon, confirming the tease at the end of “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts” in 2023. While the details of the mash-up story remain unknown, it is presumed that a world-ending threat will emerge, requiring the collaboration of Transformers and G.I. Joe soldiers to save the day. The movie could draw inspiration from various comic book series. Let’s hope there won’t be any sky portal clichés.
It remains unclear which character Hemsworth will portray in the blockbuster toy crossover film. While he could potentially reprise his Optimus Prime voice from “Transformers One,” the live-action versions of the character, familiar to fans in the Transformers film franchise, are voiced by Peter Cullen. Most likely, Hemsworth will take on one of the main G.I. Joe characters. After all, Paramount wouldn’t invest millions in casting Hemsworth without showcasing his chiseled jawline and muscular physique, making him an ideal candidate for the leader of the G.I. Joe team.
Fans are left wondering if any original cast members from the previous live-action “G.I. Joe” film franchise, such as Dwayne Johnson, Channing Tatum, Adrianne Palicki, D.J. Catrona, Lee Byung-hun, Walton Goggins, or Marlon Wayans, will make a return. It is probable that this crossover marks the beginning of a new era for G.I. Joe in movie form, leaving behind the earlier iterations of the franchise. Only time will tell.
