David Raya secured the accolade as the league’s top goalkeeper after a pivotal moment where Luton managed to score against his closest competitor, Jordan Pickford. Raya’s stellar performance included keeping 14 clean sheets in 29 league matches throughout the season, a remarkable achievement since joining Arsenal on loan from Brentford in the summer transfer window of 2023.
The race for the Golden Glove was particularly intense before Everton’s match on Friday, May 3, 2024, as Pickford stood as the sole contender capable of surpassing Raya. Notably, Raya becomes the first Arsenal player to claim this honor since Petr Cech during the 2014/15 season.
With three games remaining in the season, Raya remains determined to further bolster his clean sheet record, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to defensive excellence.
It is the third time a Gunners keeper has won the accolade, which was introduced in 2004/05. Wojciech Szczesny’s 16 clean sheets in 2013/14 saw him tie with Chelsea’s Petr Cech, while following his move to north London Cech was the winner two seasons later when he also recorded 16.
