Meta’s Threads app has reached over 150 million monthly users, marking an increase of about 20 million new users since February. Mark Zuckerberg revealed these user statistics during Meta’s first-quarter earnings call, stating that the app is “continuing on the trajectory that I hope to see.”
Though Threads initially experienced explosive growth, its expansion has since slowed. The app amassed over 100 million downloads in its first week, followed by a drop in engagement. However, over the last six months, Threads has shown steady growth, and Zuckerberg predicts it could become Meta’s next billion-user app.
Threads appears to be outperforming X (formerly Twitter) in some aspects. Analytics firm Apptopia reports that Threads has more daily users in the United States than X, as noted by Business Insider. X, meanwhile, claims 550 million daily users globally. Additionally, Threads recently gained a major boost when Taylor Swift joined the platform to promote her latest album.
Threads is unique among Meta’s apps as it currently lacks advertisements, so the company isn’t directly profiting from it yet. However, as Threads continues to grow, Meta may eventually introduce monetization strategies. Zuckerberg has stated that the company will focus on generating revenue only after the app reaches a certain size.
