Taylor Swift’s music has made a comeback on TikTok after a disagreement that resulted in her label temporarily halting licensing its content to the app. This development coincides with the anticipation surrounding Swift’s upcoming album, “The Tortured Poets Department.”
In January, Universal Music withdrew songs from its artists, including Rihanna and Ariana Grande, due to a licensing dispute, but now, many of Swift’s popular tracks, like “You Belong With Me” and “Cruel Summer,” are once again accessible for users to incorporate into their videos. However, music from other Universal artists remains unavailable.
Reports suggest that Swift’s unique ownership of her music copyrights, established in a 2018 agreement with Universal, may have facilitated her music’s return to TikTok. Some speculate that Swift could have struck a separate deal with the platform.
Swift’s loyal fanbase, known as “Swifties,” expressed their excitement over her music’s return on TikTok. Users shared their joy, anticipating the opportunity to incorporate Swift’s new album into their videos.
Meanwhile, Universal Music expressed concerns about TikTok’s compensation for artists, especially regarding AI-generated songs resembling original tracks, which can gain viral popularity.
Swift’s announcement of “The Tortured Poets Department” occurred during her acceptance of her 13th Grammy award earlier this year. The album, set for release on April 19th, marks her 11th studio album.
