Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba has responded officially to his four-year ban for breaching doping regulations.
In a statement posted on his verified Instagram account on Thursday, February 29, 2024, the 31-year-old asserted his innocence. Pogba vehemently denied any intentional use of performance-enhancing substances or actions that could compromise the integrity of football.
Expressing his dismay, Pogba stated:
“Having been made aware of the decision by the Tribunale Nazionale Antidoping, I firmly contest its validity. It is profoundly disheartening to see my hard-earned professional career unjustly stripped away. Rest assured, when I am able to fully disclose the details, the truth will prevail. I stand firm in my conviction that I have never knowingly violated anti-doping protocols.”
He further added:
“As an athlete, I hold the utmost respect for the sport and my fellow competitors. I categorically reject any insinuation of dishonesty or unfair advantage throughout my career. Consequently, I intend to appeal this ruling to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.”
Pogba’s ban stems from a positive test for elevated testosterone levels following Juventus’ opening fixture of the 2023/24 season. Despite not featuring in the match, he was subjected to random testing, leading to the subsequent ban.
