Meta To Introduce Monetization Feature for Nigerian Creators on Instagram Starting June

Meta, the parent company of popular social media platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram, will introduce a new feature on its Instagram app. This feature will enable Nigerian content creators to monetize their content, allowing them to earn a livelihood through the app starting from June 2024.

During a visit to President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja, a delegation from Meta Platforms Incorporated, led by Sir Nick Clegg, former UK Deputy Prime Minister and Meta’s President of Global Affairs, announced this development. Sir Clegg expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for facilitating the landing of a Meta-backed deep-sea cable in Nigeria through an Executive Order. This cable has the potential to drive multi-billion dollar economic activities across Africa.

President Tinubu highlighted his administration’s commitment to digital technology investments aimed at enhancing small business sustainability and expanding opportunities across various sectors. He emphasized the importance of preparing Nigerian youths for the digital economy through initiatives like the 3MTT program, which aims to train three million youths in digital technology and essential skills.

Acknowledging the pivotal role of technology in driving small businesses, President Tinubu expressed his commitment to leveraging technology to catalyze growth and prosperity among micro-businesses. He welcomed collaborations with Meta to promote mutual interests and enhance the business environment in Nigeria.

Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani, emphasized the significance of Meta platforms in Nigeria and stressed the importance of partnerships and engagements to foster development in the digital economy sector. He underscored the potential of digital technology to connect Africa and contribute to global development.

Overall, Meta’s introduction of the monetization feature on Instagram signifies a significant step forward for Nigerian content creators, offering them new opportunities to leverage their creativity and reach a wider audience while earning a sustainable income.
