Wizkid’s hit track ‘Essence,’ featured on his fourth album ‘Made In Lagos,’ has achieved remarkable success internationally, particularly in the United States. Surpassing four million units in sales, the song has attained RIAA platinum status, solidifying its position as one of the most significant exports in the Afrobeats genre.
Since its launch in 2020, ‘Essence,’ featuring Tems, has enjoyed widespread commercial acclaim, notably reaching No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 with the assistance of the Justin Bieber remix.
Notably endorsed as one of the greatest songs in music history by Kanye West, ‘Essence’ secured the Collaboration of the Year award at the 2021 BET Awards and garnered a nomination for Best Global Song Performance at the 64th Grammys.
The song also propelled Tems to international recognition, marking her as the first Nigerian female artist to debut a song on the Billboard Hot 100 and to debut at No. 1 with Future’s ‘Wait For U,’ subsequently becoming the first Nigerian female artist to win a Grammy.
