Celebrations abound as Super Eagles and Napoli forward, Victor Osimhen, emerges as the standout player in Serie A.
The Italian Footballers’ Association Footballer of the Year has bestowed the coveted title upon the Nigerian international for his outstanding performance in the recently concluded 2022/23 football season. Osimhen played a pivotal role in Napoli’s triumphant campaign, culminating in the club clinching the Serie A title for the first time in 33 years.
The awards ceremony, held on Monday, December 4, 2023, saw Victor Osimhen and his teammates earning recognition across various categories. This prestigious accolade, previously claimed by football luminaries such as Rafael Leao, Gianluigi Buffon, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, now adds Osimhen to its illustrious list.
Osimhen’s selection as the award winner is attributed to his remarkable goal-scoring prowess, tallying an impressive 26 goals in 32 Serie A appearances. The Nigerian striker’s stellar performance also garnered nominations for other prestigious awards, including the FIFA Best, the CAF award, and the Ballon d’Or.
In addition to his individual triumph, Osimhen earned a well-deserved spot in the Serie A Team of the Year alongside notable players like Mike Maignan, Giovanni Di Lorenzo, Kim Min-jae, Andrea Bastoni, Theo Hernández, Stanislav Lobotka, Hakan Çalhanoğlu, Nicolo Barella, Rafael Leão, and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
