Meta is taking a proactive stance against disinformation on Threads by establishing a dedicated team of fact-checkers. While Facebook and Instagram already benefit from third-party content moderators, Meta aims to extend this safeguard to its Twitter competitor, Threads.
In a recent update, Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri announced Meta’s plans to introduce fact-checkers on Threads by the coming year. The current practice involves carrying over fact-check ratings from Facebook or Instagram to Threads for content deemed false. However, Meta intends to empower fact-checking partners to independently review and rate misinformation specifically on the Threads platform.
The objective is to enhance the accuracy and reliability of information on Threads, acknowledging that the text-based nature of the platform may require a unique approach to identify and address disinformation. Mosseri expressed the company’s commitment to providing more details on this initiative in the near future.
