In a recent trial in New York, American actor Jonathan Majors, renowned for his role as Kang in Marvel films, has been found guilty of assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari. The verdict, delivered by a six-person jury after four hours of deliberation on Monday, convicted Majors on charges of third-degree reckless assault and second-degree harassment.
The incident occurred in March during an altercation between Majors and Jabbari, triggered by Jabbari seeing a message from another woman on Majors’ phone during a night out. The altercation left Jabbari with multiple injuries, including a fractured finger and a laceration behind her ear. Majors, 34, pleaded not guilty to the charges earlier this year and chose not to testify during the trial.
While Majors was acquitted of two counts of intentional assault and aggravated harassment, the jury found him guilty on two counts, leading to potential jail time of up to a year. Marvel Studios has also announced that they will not proceed with Majors on future projects in the aftermath of the verdict.
Reacting to the jury’s decision, the victim’s attorney, Ross Kramer, commended Jabbari’s courage for testifying and expressed gratitude to the jurors and the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office. Jabbari’s testimony, he stated, demonstrated strength and resilience, hoping it would inspire other survivors to come forward and seek justice.
Majors is scheduled for sentencing on February 6 next year. The prosecution portrayed the assault as part of Majors’ pattern of exerting control over his girlfriend through physical and emotional violence, presenting voice recordings and text messages as evidence during the trial.
