Jada Pinkett Smith disclosed her interaction with Chris Rock amid ongoing rumors about her divorce from Will Smith. Jada, promoting her upcoming book “Worthy,” expressed her wish for resolution regarding the Oscars incident involving her husband’s onstage confrontation with Chris Rock over a joke about Jada.
She confirmed not having spoken with Chris since the March 27, 2022 incident. When asked about her desire to communicate with him, Jada responded that her primary hope is for the misunderstandings to be resolved and for peace to prevail.
Addressing a specific matter in her book, Jada acknowledged a possible misunderstanding between her and Chris concerning the 2016 Oscars. She explained that her support for the #OscarsSoWhite movement and subsequent boycott led to jokes made by Chris as the host of the event. In his recent comedy special, Chris mentioned Jada advising him to quit the hosting job in solidarity.
Jada admitted she didn’t fully grasp the pressure Chris faced at the time. Reflecting on her actions, she recognized the importance of reaching out to check on him and offer her best wishes during that period.
Although both Chris and Jada apologized to each other in 2016, Jada thought the issue had been resolved until the 2022 Oscars incident.
Regarding the Oscars confrontation, Jada described how Chris approached her onstage, attempting to apologize during a live broadcast pause when he was presenting an award. However, she chose not to discuss the matter at that moment, deeming it related to their respective personal issues predating her involvement.
When asked if she took offense at the joke about her shaved head during the Oscars incident, Jada acknowledged that comedians often employ humor. While she admitted being hurt by Chris’s jokes on previous occasions, she emphasized the challenges of being in the public eye.
