Today, the Nigeria music Industry mourns the unexpected loss of the young rapper and street music sensation, Mohbad
On Tuesday, September 12, 2023, it was reported that the songwriter visited the hospital to treat an infection but eventually passed away.
The news of his demise was reported by his management yesterday the 13th of September 2023 via Mohbad’s X account. It reads:
With great sadness, we confirm the passing of Promise Oladmeji Aloba aka Mohbad today, the 12th of September 2023.”
The death of the rising star has sparked several reactions as it shows that the singer had battled a lot of issues with his former record label, Marlian Records.
Mohbad’s issues with the Marlian Record.
Mohbad joined Marlian Record in 2019 and he gained popularity with his hit Ko Po Ke which he released in 2020. However, the singer left the label in 2022 .
In a statement issued on his behalf, his legal team claimed that Mohbad’s departure was due to the persistent attacks he endured, which were reportedly coordinated by Naira Marley.
As a result of his death, a video surfaced on the internet which revealed that the late singer once battled mental issues earlier this year.
In an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Belle Shumurda revealed that they were in an apartment when Mohbad left. Afterward, his girlfriend frantically came into the room because he was attempting to jump to his death from the balcony.
Many musician and celebrities send out their grief for the loss on their social media.
CEO YBNL, Olamide shared on his X account a heartbreaking emoji to express his sorrow for Mohbad’s death.

In 2019, The Nigerian rapper released his debut EP titled “Light” which featured the Nigerian artists; Lil Kesh, Davido, and Naira Marley
The songwriter is known for monster hits such as Ponmo, Peace, Feel Good, and his monster hit Ko Po Ke which was nominated 3 times for the Headies Award in 2022.
Also, his songs were nominated 5 times in the Beatz Award in 2021.
Mohbad’s music had a tremendous impact on the Nigeria music industry in the short time of his ascending prominence.
