During the week, Muhammadu Zamfara, a beggar on the Ojoo Bridge in Ibadan, Oyo State, informed the Saturday Tribune. He claimed that they left the North for Ibadan because wealthier people in the North treat them unfairly.
He said that bandit actions have badly impacted the lives of the impoverished in the North, prompting many of them to flee to other states in quest of peace and a better life.
“We, the poor, are bearing the brunt of bandits’ activities.” They abduct our relatives, burn down our homes, and demand a ransom from us. We prefer to visit Ibadan because it provides us with piece of mind and because Yoruba people are eager to assist us.
