Recognized as the largest women’s sporting event in history, the Women’s World Cup is expected to have a profound impact on the growth and promotion of women’s football worldwide. This year’s event is held in collaboration with the United Nations, aiming to raise awareness about various social issues under the theme “Football Unites the World.”

FIFA President Gianni Infantino emphasized that football has a unique power to bring people together and evoke joy, excitement, and passion. Moreover, the tournament will serve as a platform to highlight essential social causes, such as inclusion, gender equality, peace, ending hunger, and combating domestic violence, throughout all 64 matches.

Fatma Samoura, FIFA’s Secretary General, expressed the commitment to use football as a force for good and leverage partnerships with United Nations agencies to achieve significant goals.

The 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup is making history in terms of viewership, with over 1.3 million tickets already sold for the 64 matches. FIFA is targeting a record-breaking 2 billion television viewers, doubling the audience of the 2019 World Cup in France.

In a significant step, FIFA will directly pay players for the first time, with increased amounts for each stage of the tournament, including overall prize money that has risen substantially. Captains will be allowed to wear armbands to promote the partnered campaigns during the matches.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino expressed gratitude to the fans for supporting what promises to be the greatest FIFA Women’s World Cup ever, reiterating that the future is indeed women.
