Music Chart Data reports that Kendrick Lamar’s Grammy-award-winning fifth studio album has secured the No. 110 spot on the Billboard 200 as of Monday (May 15). Notably, his previous album, ‘DAMN.’, also holds steady on the chart at No. 41.
Since its release on May 13, 2022, ‘Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers’ has achieved impressive feats. It debuted impressively at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, accumulating 295,000 album-equivalent units in its first week, making it the rap album with the highest debut of the year. Chart Data also reported that the album became the first rap album in 2022 to surpass one billion streams on Spotify in August.
In April, Kendrick’s Big Steppers Tour surpassed Drake’s record and became the highest-grossing rap tour, generating over $110.9 million from 929,000 tickets across 73 shows.
Excitingly, Kendrick Lamar is already working on his sixth studio album, as shared by his longtime producer, Sounwave, in an interview with Complex. Sounwave revealed that they immediately began creating new music after the release of ‘Mr. Morale’. He emphasized that Kendrick’s creativity is a continuous process, with ideas flowing consistently since the early stages of his career.
“We always start immediately after. Like, we’re starting on the next one now. That’s never going to change, all the way from the Kendrick Lamar EP. The next day, we started on Section.80. It’s just the ideas never stopped,” explained Sounwave. He also highlighted that touring with Kendrick provides an opportunity to work on the next album, ensuring they maintain the momentum and deliver exceptional music.
