Sources have reported that Lionel Messi is set to join Paris Saint-Germain’s (PSG) first team for training and may feature in their upcoming match against Ajaccio on Saturday…
The sources suggest that Messi was suspended for missing practice after a trip to Saudi Arabia last week, but PSG has decided to reduce the suspension following his apology to the club, teammates, and fans.
On Monday, while the rest of the first team enjoyed a day off after their victory over Troyes, Messi trained alone at the Ligue 1 leaders’ facility. According to the sources, PSG has decided to fine Messi €1.6 million, which equates to two weeks’ wages.
PSG posted a picture of Messi training on social media and captioned it, “The Argentinian striker from Paris Saint-Germain was back in training on Monday 8 May.” Later that day, Messi attended the Laureus Awards in Paris, where he was awarded Sportsman of the Year and accepted the World Team of the Year award on behalf of Argentina.
Despite Messi’s recent achievements, his future at PSG is uncertain. A source close to the Argentina captain claims he has received a formal offer to join Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal next season. It appears unlikely that he will renew his contract with PSG as the 36-year-old enters the twilight of his career.
Messi’s association with Saudi Arabia has been controversial, as he was appointed as their tourism ambassador last year and visited Jeddah in May 2022. He later returned in January to play a friendly match with PSG against a team of Saudi League stars, where he faced his long-standing rival Cristiano Ronaldo, who is currently playing for Al Nassr.
With four rounds of games remaining this season, PSG is currently leading the Ligue 1 table, six points ahead of Lens and eight points ahead of Marseille.
