As President Muhammadu Buhari prepared to pack his bags from the seat of power, he decided to confer some Nigerians with national awards as part of his last act in office. This was revealed on Sunday, May 28, by the federal government.
Several individuals from the entertainment industry have been awarded national awards and hitmaker Davido, Nigerian music diva Tiwa Savage, filmmaker Kunle Afolayan, comedian/filmmaker, AY and Nigerian film producer Charles Okpaleke (aka Charles of Play) join this exclusive list of entertainers.
All five big names in the entertainment industry and three hundred and thirty-four other notable Nigerians have been announced as recipients of the 2023 national awards.
The Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, on Sunday, announced the award in various cadres.
David Adeleke better known as Davido was awarded the Officer Of The Order of The Niger (OON).
Multi-award-winning filmmaker Kunle Afolayan whose productions are widely acknowledged to have facilitated the path to a new Nollywood was also awarded the Officer Of The Order of The Niger (OON).
Ayodeji Makun popularly known as A.Y stands out as one of the biggest names in the comedy and filmmaking industry, as his movies are some of highest grossing Nollywood films at the box office. He was honored with the Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR).
Charles Okpaleke is a Nigerian film producer renowned for his talent in transforming Nigerian classics into award-winning films was also awarded the Officer Of The Order of The Niger (OON) distinction.
