Congratulations are in order for American actress and producer, Viola Davis who has become the 18th person to achieve the EGOT, which means winning an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Award.
The actor achieved this status after she won her first Grammy Award at the just concluded 65th Annual Grammy in the Best Audio Book, Narration, and Storytelling Recording category for her memoir ‘Finding Me’.
In her acceptance speech, Viola Davis emotionally shared the inspiration behind her memoir. Take a look.
Viola Davis’s journey to this accomplishment kicked off after earning a Tony in 2001 for her role in ‘King Hedley II’.
She then won another Tony in 2010 for ‘Fences’, scored an Emmy in 2015 for ‘How To Get Away With Murder’ and an Oscar in 2016 for ‘Fences’ again before finishing it off with her Grammy win this year.
Just so you know, Viola Davis is now the fourth black person to reach this highly sought-after accomplishment.
Whoopi Goldberg was the first Black star to achieve EGOT status back in 2002, sixteen years later, John Legend joined the club as well, and he is currently the only Black man to win an EGOT.
Jennifer Hudson is another EGOT winner, as she accomplished the feat after winning a Tony Award last year.
