SEE WHY MKO Abiola’s Wife Drags IGP, Others To Court, Seeks N100bn (VIDEO)

Prof. Zainab Abiola, the late Chief MKO Abiola’s wife has filed a lawsuit against the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba for alleged character defamation.

In the suit with reference number FHA/ABJ/CS/2370/202 filed by her lawyer, Tawo Tawo (SAN), Zainab is challenging the police for violating her fundamental human rights to life and dignity as a human being.

Prof. Zainab Abiola in her claim issued on Sunday averred that she was framed on September 20, 2022, by Ibrahim Alkali, the adopted son of the IGP, that she inflicted injury on her former orderly, Inspector Moses, a development she said has caused damage to her name and reputation.

She said, “He (Ibrahim Alkali) conspired with my ex-orderly to lie that I inflicted bodily harm on her. We have CCTV cameras around that will reveal what happened when the proceedings commenced.

“The aforementioned incident has caused me so much damage, trauma, and ill-health, and has reduced my standing and recognition in a global society, despite the fact that I have attained an international reputation,” she said.

Zainab requested a declaration from the court in the summons that the police’s actions against her and the other plaintiffs have given her a string of nightmares and that she is constantly afraid for her life.

The plaintiff, therefore, requested that the court compel the defendants to give her N100 billion as compensation for the defamation, shame, ridicule, harassment, trauma, humiliation, and public embarrassment that she suffered at the hands of the police.

The 28th of February has been set aside for the lawsuit’s hearing.
