[WATCH VIDEO]: Why Lagos Ibadan Expressway Won’t Be Completed In December 2022

Road users along the route have been facing hard times, spending long hours in gridlock resulting from the construction.

The situation in the last four days became so tough for road users that some people in the area staged a protest on Saturday, carrying placards calling for the federal government’s intervention.

The government responded by apologising and promising to review the traffic management in the axis, among other steps to ease the hardship.

Discussing the progress and plan for the completion of the road, the Ogun sector commander of the Federal Road Safty corps (FRCS), Umar  Ahmed said, ” It has been quite hectic for the FRSC and other collaboration agencies in the traffic management along that corridor while the construction works lasted,

“It has not been easy, with no movement of vehicles coupled with rules violations, that is people following one way, both motorcycle and motor vehicles.

“It was extremely very very challenging for all of us but we thank God now that the work has come to completion by Julius Begger and I must give them that commendation for meeting up the target.

“In fact, they promised on or before the 15th of December and they delivered before the 15th of December and they delivered before the 15th of December and it’s very commendable,” he added.

Reacting to the misinformation and conflict in the report the Minister of works said, “we just had our ember month briefing just on Thursday last week and we clarified that issue.

We even invited FRSC and all other state holders. During this period of Ember month, we have already directed our contractors and field officers to ensure that where palliative wasn’t to be carried out to carry out and part of the program was for us to shut down sites on the 15th of December and not to open up a new section that can not be completed before 15th of December and to ensure that where ever we stop, all the barriers on the road are removed…”
