At what point did you get to where you are right now?
I won’t say this year has been my year this year, I will say maybe this year, I have been seen, and all the work I have put in the past is been seen now. It’s more like people are catching up or people are accepting but yea, I have been waiting not just waiting, working as well.
The world still needs to catch up. Globally, people need to catch up and never stop.
How were you able to connect with your character in AnÃkúlápó?
First, I was in a perfect environment for it, we shot in Oyo state and we were there for like 2 months.
Any human being will get into character, everything that surrounds you is a reminder, the set was built, you don’t see modern houses, you don’t see Nepa poles etc.
Except you’re just a lazy person or just not interested in being in the project that’s when you won’t get into character,
Everything made it work for me plus the fact that i was willing to become Saro, it was an engine with a full function engine,
Did you struggle to play two characters in the movie AnÃkúlápo?
Not necessarily, AnÃkúlápó is the title meaning I have death in my pouch, it’s a title he attain but they were a human before that title. It’s more of what he became, a reveal of who is really beneath that humble person.
Tell us about the latest movie you’re featured in, Ijakumo where you played a pastor.
I have always wanted to play a pastor and growing up, if being a pastor was a career I think I wanted to be one. That was what I just admired because that was a whole different world so I have always wanted to play and be that and I got to play it.
The only thing is that playing it in a movie now, he is not such a good pastor but he was still a pastor and he still has a congregation so it’s just interesting.
The movie, ‘Ijakumo’ (The Born-Again Stripper) is directed by Adebayor Tijani.
