Four new-born babies were allegedly taken from a maternity hospital in Nkpologwu, Aguata Local Government Area, Anambra State, by some unidentified gunmen.
A source in the region confirmed the attack to journalists on Wednesday, but the reason behind the attack is yet unknown.
Although the incident’s specifics are still vague, a source in the neighbourhood revealed that it occurred late on Tuesday but was only made public to community members on Wednesday.
The source said, “It happened in our community on Tuesday night and people have been discussing it since Wednesday morning. They said some gunmen stormed the hospital (name withheld) and took away four babies from the hospital.
“From what people are saying in the community, no one was injured, and no one was killed in the attack too. It is yet to be known what the purpose of the kidnap of the babies was.
But speculation in the community is that they could have taken the babies to sell them to childless individuals, while others say it could be for ritual purposes.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, said when approached that he is not currently in possession of any such information.
