The 2022 American Music Awards popularly called AMA’s held at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles, California and we saw a lot of great talents bag some awards.
Wizkid was among the nominees for the new category, Favorite Afrobeats Artiste at the 2022 AMA’s as he was nominated alongside BurnaBoy, CKay, Tems, and Fireboy all of whom have enjoyed success in the United States in the year in review.
Wizkid becomes the Favorite Afrobeats Artiste and his song ‘Essence’ featuring Tems and Justin Bieber also took home the award for Favorite R&B.
Tems took home a pair of awards, one for Favorite R&B for ‘Essence’ and another for Favorite Hip Hop for her feature on Future’s ‘Wait For U.’
Taylor swift was the biggest winner of the night as she bagged six awards which are Favorite Music Video, Artist of The Year, Favorite Female Pop Artiste, Favorite Pop Album, Favorite Female Country Artiste, and Favorite Country Album.
Lionel Richie was honoured with the 2022 Icon Award and an extended tribute from Stevie Wonder and Charlie Puth as host Wayne Brady was among those speaking about the Colorado Springs shooting.
Other winners of the night include Beyonce who won Favorite Female R&B Artist, Favorite R&B Album and Favorite R&B Song, while Harry Styles won Favorite Male Pop Artiste and Favorite Pop Song.
Bad Bunny, Kendrick Lamar, Chris Brown, Dave Cameron, BTS, Coldplay, Nicki Minaj, and Machine Gun Kelly were also among the winners on the night.
