Heart coach and intimacy teacher, Matthew Watchman highlighted the processes of self-discovery.
Embarking on a journey of self-discovery might sound like a huge undertaking, but if you break it up into tiny pieces, it’s totally doable, he explained further.
Why do you choose to be referred to as so?
What I believe is this, whereas sciences prove that when a child is being formed in the womb the heart is developed before the brain snd so what you will find is that there are more connections from the heart to the brain than to the brain to the heart and what I have sort of discovered in my studies and training is the heart takes president in your decision-making process.
Until we are using both parts in connection with each other we will find out that we are only really functioning at the lowest level of ourselves.
How can one discover his or her identity?
It is never too late, an adage that says, ‘na when person wake up na then day brake’ so whatever age you get to and you begin the process of discovery, I don’t believe it’s too late, I believe there’s always a chance.
But scientifically, from the age of 11, children begin to figure out how do I identify themselves outside of their family role.
To begin the process of talking about identity, you need to first u understand what identity is.
Identity is the qualities, beliefs, personality traits, appearance, and/or expressions that characterize a person or group. In sociology, emphasis is placed on collective identity, in which an individual’s identity is strongly associated with role behaviour or the collection of group memberships that define them.
It basically the focus of,
- Who I am
- How do I fit in into the world
- What am I going to do with my life?
Parents underate teenagers, we want to tell them what to do and we are not trusting them early enough but if they can begin the process of trusting themselves, it will be good because we are vastly different from our parents.
These days we have so many options and between their generation and ours, we are so different that we need to start teaching identity.
