While he was then best known for his acting role on STARZ hit series Power, Rotimi assured fans that his repertoire stretched far beyond his on-screen character.

Infusing contemporary R&B with traditional Afrobeat and dancehall, Rotimi introduced his own smooth sound of global influences.

How did you get the role-playing Dre in Power?

I got the role by just auditioning but at that point in time, I didn’t have much money so I had to fly to LA bet on myself, stayed in a motel for a couple of weeks, and the rest was history

How did you become the Vilan in the show?

So they actually gave me the option to either be the Villian or a Ghost 2.0 and I was like, you can’t make a Ghost 2.0 so I was like, let me establish myself and make myself my own guy and make Dre a memorable character.

How did the movie open doors for you?

That was when 50 Cent discovered that I did music, he worked into a meeting, he didn’t know I did music at then, he heard my song and made me play the song 8-9 times and then gave me a record deal, and he got on that song and from there I just created music upon the music.

I have been doing music since I was five years old and acting just came about because I was a college kid who did not have any money and just was trying to get a commercial. It was never my plan to be an actor but you know God is amazing so it turned out working out.

I was in a group with JayZ’s nephew since I was 16 so every week we go to his house and perform in front of him and he will critique our performances it was really dope.

I saw JayZ about three years ago and he told me he was super proud of what I have done and that he loves my music.

I want to have my own show in Maddison garden, I have always envisioned doing a show in the 02 and oOvo arena and that came through with my new music.

What does being a father and a Husband do to you?

Being in this situation, makes you grow up really fast and it shows you who you really are as a person like how patient kind and communicative are you really because you have somebody that is watching everything you do and you want to show him and teach him the good part about you so you have to eliminate the negatives so it’s cool.

How challenging can it be for you to be spiritual as you are in such a culture America?

There are no challenges to it at this point in my life before it was just like, you are a little shy to speak about it now I just don’t care because I keep to myself, I make the music, I do my job, I perform it, keep to myself, my family, friends, enjoy life with it and I don’t get caught with it.

What makes your partner special?

She’s my best friend, business partner, good person, great human being, and an incredible mum and my Gee
