The ladies of “Your View” reacts to a story shared by Morayo Brown of how her friend’s child was spanked in her school.
The story reads, “a friend of mine had a daughter in a tutorial school where she was hoping that her daughter could have extra lessons and be more serious towards her exams.
One of the things they do in this school is spanking so every parent that has a child in this school knows so well that they spank kids there when they misbehave but recently, the school was shut down because one of the kids got spanked.
The child claimed that they spanked him 30 times although the school countered it and said it was just 12 times. The parents took pictures of the marks from the spank for evidence and it was quite intense.
The case was reported to the Lagos State government and the school was shut down and the case taken to court.
However, parents of other kids have pleaded with the parent of the child to please forgive the school and allow the school to continue to run for the sake of their children.
The school proprietor also went to plead with the parent of the child crying in front of the child but they demised her saying absolutely not.”
Is it right for them to shut down the school especially because they are other children involved who can’t go to school because of that?
Reacting to the story Tope Mark Odigie said, “there is a Yoruba proverb that says, “Help Me Beat Up My Child, Is Not Really From The Heart Of A Parent”
“When you see the result of the beating, in most cases parents can’t take it and that is what I think happened here.
“I understand that beating is their policy but for them to punish and beat to the extent where they left marks on the child’s body, there is no justification for that. That for me is child abuse and should be punished.
“While you punish a child, you don’t want to abuse the child and if you don’t want rebellion, you should find a way to go about it,” she reacted
