The American Music Awards have revealed the candidates for the 2022 edition and again, Nigerian music is going global.
This year’s category has, Favourite rock song, favourite rock album, favourite Afrobeats musician, and favourite K-pop artists are among the new categories added to the award this year.
Nigerian artists, Wizkid, Burna Boy, CKay, Tems, and Fireboy DML are the first artists to be nominated for the maiden Favorite Afrobeats Artiste category.
Tems, on the other hand, leads the Nigerian nominee’s list with four nominations, which is the favourite Afrobeats artiste of the year, a collaboration of the year for Future’s ‘Wait For U’, favourite hip-hop song for ‘Wait For U’ again, and favourite R&B song for her collaboration with Wizkid on ‘Essence’, meaning Wizkid also grabs two nominations.
Puerto Rican rapper, Bad BunnyPuerto Rican rapper, Bad Bunny has the most nominations, with eight, in categories like artist of the year, favourite touring artiste, favourite music video, favourite male pop artiste, and others.
He is followed by Beyonce, Drake, and Taylor Swift, all of whom have been nominated for six awards this year.
The 2022 American Music Awards will hold at the Microsoft Theater, Los Angeles on Sunday, November 20.
