It’s Wednesday again and today we will be crushing on the beautiful Venus Ebony Starr Williams, known popularly as Venus Williams.
She is an American professional tennis player, a former number one in both singles and doubles.
One of the greatest female tennis players of all time, and a pathbreaker in many ways, Venus was introduced to tennis on the public courts in Los Angeles by her father, who early on recognized her talent and oversaw her development.
She turned professional in 1994 and soon attracted attention for her powerful serves and ground strokes, then in 1997, she became the first unseeded United States Open women’s finalist in the open era, and in 2000, she won both Wimbledon and the U.S open, both titles she successfully defended in 2001.
Known for her superb athleticism and strength, she has successfully defined the way women’s tennis is played, bringing unprecedented power to the sport and even continued playing the sport while facing injuries, cementing her name in tennis books.
Also by displaying grace and determination both on and off the court, Venus has transcended the boundaries of tennis, as she has become an exemplary role model for women and people of colour, as well as an inspiration to millions of people who she continues to make an indelible mark on every tournament she plays.
Now here are 5 things we probably did not know about Venus Williams.
1. She is the biological sister to professional tennis player, Serena Williams, and the only player to defeat Serena on grass two times.
2. She turned pro in 1994 when she was only fourteen, as her first professional tournament was the bank of the west classic in Oakland, California.

4. She wanted to become an astronaut when she was a kid.
5. She became the first black tennis player to be ranked number one in the open era
