Once upon a time, Nollywood actors used to eat their roles so well that people found it difficult to differentiate between them and these characters.

Sure, this ended up in some serious typecasting and something else, which is being christened with a new name that makes many eventually forget their real names.

Sanyeri is one of the talented comical actors who have achieved success in the Yoruba Nollywood industry. Watching Sanyeri on your TV screen would make you burst into laughter.

His real name is Olaniyi Afonja, however, he got his nickname after he performed in a stage play in Ogbomoso where he played the role of Sanyeri, the name however stuck with him, and people still call him that to date.

Lalude is another household name in the Yoruba aspect of the movie industry, particularly in the epic movie genre.

He is known mostly as a powerful traditionalist in almost all movies he is featured in, his costumes alone, are top-notch and made in a way, such that he looks very scary with his black painted lips and his eyes painted with kajal.

He got the name ‘Lalude’ when he acted in Ogbori Elemosho where he played the role years back. Just so you know, his actual name is Fatai Adekunle Adetayo.

 

  1. IYA RAINBOW

The veteran Nollywood actress is popular for her motherly roles in several films both English and Yoruba.

It’s not new anymore that many people only know her as Mama Rainbow or Iya Rainbow.

However, the name Mama Rainbow was from Osumare which means ‘rainbow’, she got the name from the Osumare theatre group which was founded by her late husband Ayanfemi Philips. Her real name however is Idowu Philips.

Ebun Oloyede is another veteran Yoruba actor, known for his skilful interpretation of roles and his brilliant comical performances. He is popularly known by his stage name, Olaiya Igwe.

The veteran actor got the name several years back after he released his hit movies like Iru Esin, Ololade Mr Money, Abela Pupa and many more.

Ogogo a.k.a Action man is one of the famous actors in Nollywood as a whole. Aside from his popularity in the Yoruba industry, where his movies are most admired, his nickname which was gotten from a character he once played is a big household name in the country.

If you have watched the then popular movie, Owo Blow, you might not need to know anything about the man. But, at the mention of Ogogo, the dark-skinned and mettle man readily comes to your mind. For your information, his real name is Taiwo Hassan.
