The Federal Government announced plans to introduce legislation to prohibit the consumption of animal skin, known locally as ‘ponmo’, in the country in order to revitalize tanneries.
This indication emerged on Monday, September 19, 2022, when the Director-General, Nigerian Institute of Leather and Science Technology (NILEST), Zaria, Muhammad Yakubu, said that legislation was being proposed to outlaw the consumption of ponmo in the country.
