There has been an online war about who was the first Nigerian artiste to have started the South African sound, Amapiano in Nigeria.
It all started when a Twitter user who happens to be a Davido fan tweeted that Davido brought Amapiano to Nigeria and popularized the genre after working with South Africa’s producer Focalistic on ‘K-Star’ remix.
The tweet further claimed that Wizkid latest’s single ‘Bad For Me’ was a desperate attempt to make a hit song from the genre after Davido’s purported importation of the South African sound.
That tweet apparently got many reactions from various fan bases, and setting the records straight, South African DJ and record producer, DJ Maphorisa who apparently is an associate of Wizkid replied that tweet writing, “Kabza & Maphorisa was the first to put Wizkid n Burnaboy on an amapiano song, Sponono, that was a historical moment three years ago, research before tweet, also it was the first time Wiz n Burna jumped on a same song together, let it sink in.”
Reacting to DJ Maphorisa’s tweet, Davido replied by writing, “You’ve never liked me y? I’ve always been good to you…Anyways, AWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY NOW!!!!!! Chu chu chu chu chu”
Singer May D also joined the online war, claiming that he is the actual originator of Amapiano music in Nigeria as he started the Nigeria/South African collaboration.
He tweeted, “Na me bring Amapiano come Naija, and I have awards to prove that! We started the Naija South African collaboration! I don’t like saying *BLEEP* like this, but y’all like putting me under the box.”
In another tweet, he wrote, “After me was Davido0”
