In the spirit of the independence day celebration which is tomorrow, we thought about the situation of things in the country, knowing fully well that the JAPA syndrome is everywhere.
The youths are the leaders of tomorrow as they say, but in order to move the country forward and make it a better place, law and order should be maintained, as we need to be good citizens.
As we anticipate the 62nd independence day celebration tomorrow, we present to you 5 WAYS TO BE A PATRIOTIC NIGERIAN.
- MAINTAIN TRAFFIC RULES
When driving, you should always follow traffic signals. As we already know, red means stop, yellow means ready and green means go.
It is in our interest as good citizens to obey the lights in order to prevent accidents and also because most traffic lights these days have cameras and your fine will be sent to you. Also, avoid one-way traffic and do not disobey traffic signs and rules.
- SAY NO TO BRIBE
A gift is different from a bribe. If you obey the rules and regulations put in place, there will be no need to cut corners when trying to get things done.
So avoid bribing officials and law enforcement agents, do things the right way and follow procedures to the end. Also, do not be coerced into giving bribes to anyone.
- TRASH YOUR WASTE PROPERLY
Waste is one of the major problems in Nigeria, this is because some people dispose of their waste on the road when it rains thereby, clogging the drainage system which in turn leads to flooding and an overflowing drainage system.
As patriotic citizens, discipline yourself. If you can’t find a trash can nearby, wait till you get home and dispose of your garbage properly not by the roadside, especially when you are in a moving vehicle.
- LEARN THE NIGERIAN ANTHEM AND PLEDGE
Before you say everyone knows the national pledge, remember a certain ambassadorial nominee who fumbled through his recitation while being confirmed.
Nigeria’s national anthem and pledge are essential parts of our identity. Be proud, and learn them.
You promote the different cultures and the positive image of the country every time you sing or recite the anthem and pledge as they contain declarations and prayers for Nigeria as a country.
- EXERCISE YOUR RIGHT TO VOTE
One way to be patriotic is to come out and enforce your civil right which is to vote, most citizens neglect this aspect of their lives, but we all want change. The change begins with you; so be the change you want.
