A group of academic staff in public universities, the Congress of University Academics, has lauded the harmonisation and validation of the reviewed Labour bills which gave workers the right to belong to the trade union of their choice.
A statement signed by the National Coordinator of the group, Niyi Sunmonu, obtained in Osogbo on Thursday, said that aligning with the principles, conventions and recommendations of the International Labour Organisation and Nigeria’s labour laws, was long overdue.
According to him, the review has brought a hope for unionism in the country and a clear path for productive and positive unionism that will make the incessant cases of industrial dispute and disharmony a thing of the past.
