International supermodel, Adesola Adeyemi, is living the life of her childhood dreams, proving that no goal is impossible to achieve with hard work, perseverance and resilience.
Adesola began her modelling career at Unilag and now she’s made it to the world stage.
The beautiful model, singer, and actor Adesola Adeyemi shares her story with the hosts and how she started her career at such a young age.
According to Adeola, she has always wanted to be a model and she got inspired when Agbani Darego won miss world she would always look at herself in the mirror.
“I didn’t grow up thinking it was beautiful because I was never told by my parents or anyone, I was always compared so I always try to self-motivate myself.
I always stare into the mirror and tell myself I am beautiful and I can do beyond, the world is going to appreciate my beauty.
I got into the university, my parents actually told me to do accounting cause I was quite really good in school but I didn’t have any interest in it so I was very unhappy about that and told them, I am going to this for you and when I am done, I going drop the certificate and do me.
When I got into University you know you get some freedom so I was like this is the right time to go into modelling.
Sadly when I told the I was going to go into modelling they were like, no it’s prostitutes that do modelling, so much stereotype.
I had to like like go beyond and be more assertive on what I really wanted to do and it was funny that I didn’t have an agency when I was on campus.”
So how did you manage?
So I use to wear heels in class, I will wear heels on campus and people were like, why is this one always wearing heels? And then one day I guy who was in scout saw me and was like, are you a model and I was like…
Where did he see you?
I saw him on campus, right in front of the Catholic Church in Unilag, he was just there and then I use to get a lot of attention from people because I always wear colours.
What is it like modelling outside the country?
It’s totally a different perspective, to be honest, I am really grateful I model abroad now because you are more respected and it’s seen more as a job. While modelling in Nigeria there was a lot I was really not happy about, like how models were treated and talked down on…
