Chukwuka Ekweani, best known by his stage as Ckay, has declared that he opposes the notion of Afrobeats artistes boasting about being superior to their contemporaries.
He claimed that if all Nigerian musicians worked together to promote one another rather than making comparisons, they would all advance in their careers more.
In a recent interview with VICE, CKay made this claim when discussing his music, the effect of Afrobeats, and its growth over the world.
According to The ‘Love Nwantiti’ crooner, the Afrobeats genre is the new pop, and the culture can expand to become even more popular than it is already, much like how Hip Hop culture did.
In his words;
I think there always argument about the biggest this, the biggest that, when like we should always support each other and enjoy the music.
Afrobeat is the new pop right now and I feel like kind of like the way Hip-Hop culture grew, Afrobeat culture can grow if we like come together and support each other.
