The stars aligned over the weekend for the annual MTV Video Music Awards. The star-studded event which held this year at the New Jersey’s Prudential Center witnessed an array of historic nominations for some of music’s most influential artistes.
Acts like Doja Cat, Jack Harlow, and Harry Styles all had eight nominations, making them the night’s top nominees, while Nicki Minaj, Jack Harlow and LL Cool J hosted the ceremony.
Nicki Minaj won the Video Vanguard Award this year, while the Red Hot Chili Peppers were named Global Icons.
Other big winners of the night were Jack Harlow with four wins, Taylor Swift, Lil Nas X and Harry Styles with three wins and Nicki Minaj and Red Hot Chilli Peppers with two wins.
Jack Harlow took home the coveted ‘Song of the Summer’ award with his hit single “First Class” and three other awards he jointly won with Lil Nas X in the categories ‘Best Art Direction’, ‘Best Visual Effects’, and ‘Best Collaboration’ for his feature on Lil Nas X song titled “Industry Baby.”
Harry Styles won ‘Best Pop’, ‘Best Cinematography’ with the song “As It Was” and ‘Album of the Year’ with his album “Harry’s House.”
Taylor Swift also won ‘Best Longform Video’, ‘Best Direction’, ‘Video of the Year’ with her song “All Too Well” (10 Minute Version) (Taylor’s Version).
Nicki Minaj won ‘Video Vanguard Award’ and ‘Best Hip-Hop’ for her song “Do We Have A Problem?” featuring Lil Baby.
Global Icon Award went to Red Hot Chili Peppers as well as ‘Best Rock’ for their song “Black Summer”.
Other winners of the night include Bad Bunny for ‘Artist of the Year’, BTS for ‘Group of the Year’, Dove Cameron for ‘Best New Artist’ and Lizzo won ‘Video for Good’ with “About Damn Time”.
Johnny Depp was also a crowd pleaser as he made a virtual appearance as a moon man while Black Eyed Peas star Fergie also made a return to the stage alongside Jack Harlow.
