Thirty-five years after the first installment, ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ has broken the twenty-five-year-old record held by the 1997 classic ‘Titanic’ starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet.

According to reports, Paramount Pictures announced the milestone achievement, as ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ officially surpassed ‘Titanic’ as the studio’s highest-grossing domestic film in its one hundred and ten-year history.

During its initial release, ‘Titanic’ grossed six hundred point seven million dollars domestically, a record that has finally been broken, however it still remains as the third-biggest worldwide release of all time, but ‘Top Gun:Maverick’ could also surpass that record as well, according to estimates from industry experts.

Speaking about the astounding achievement, Paramount President and CEO Brian Robbins said,

“For 110 years, Paramount Pictures has produced and distributed some of the most iconic films in Hollywood history, including the all-time classic ‘Titanic,’ which marks its 25th anniversary this year.

‘Top Gun: Maverick’ is a phenomenal motion picture, and we take deep pride in celebrating this tremendous achievement alongside Tom Cruise, our filmmakers and cast, our marketing and distribution teams, and, of course, all the new and original ‘Top Gun’ fans, without whom this wouldn’t have been possible.”

Just so you know, since opening during the Memorial Day weekend, ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ has crushed box office records, earning one hundred and sixty point five million dollars on its opening weekend, making it the first film in Tom Cruise’s career to surpass one hundred million dollars at the box office in one weekend.

Following its release, the film has remained in the top five at the box office and now stands as the first Tom Cruise film to surpass one billion dollars at the worldwide box office.
