Former United States President, Barack Obama has shared his summer playlist for the year 2022 and three Nigerian songs made the list.
Obama has been releasing an annual summer playlist that features the songs he listens to, however, this is not the first time Nigerian acts are appearing on his list.
This year, Burna Boy’s ‘Last Last’, Tems’ ‘Vibe Out’, and Pheelz & BNXN’s collaboration ‘Finesse’ were among the songs on the playlist.
Barack Obama shared his playlist on his social media pages, writing, “Every year, I get excited to share my summer playlist because I learn about so many new artists from your replies, it’s an example of how music really can bring us all together. Here’s what I’ve been listening to this summer. What songs would you add?”
Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar, Drake, Rihanna, Wyclef Jean, Lauryn Hill, Koffee, among many other artists’ songs also made the forty-four summer playlist.
Sampa the Great, a Zambian-born Australia-based rapper and songwriter, is the only other African musician featured on the playlist.
He also named songs from Rosalía, Lil Yachty, Prince, Aretha Franklin, Bad Bunny, and Amber Mark.
In 2019, Rema’s ‘Iron Man’ made the playlist while in 2020, Wizkid’s ‘Essence’ also made the list.
