Ruger is what a lot of the new crop of artists think they are.
He has a good voice, an unrivaled pen game, and a knack for sexy tunes that can turn up everywhere from the streets of Lagos to Amsterdam! They don’t make them better than that.
His explosive entry into the industry last year with his “Pandemic” EP is not talked about enough. Within a few weeks, Ruger had become one of the hottest voices in the country.
“Bounce” was what made it happen. The track, a contender for 2021 Song of the Year was a smooth Afrobeats bop from a youngster who has the confidence of a veteran.
The kind of confidence we’ve only seen in artists like D’banj who are not scared to project all of their sexual energy on a song. That was just it. The guy knew what he was doing and he was confident doing it. Why wouldn’t he become a hit?
Of course, the success of “Bounce” meant for a while he was going to keep looking for a hit like that. There are chances that there’s probably no hit like that anywhere anymore though. But the closest Ruger has come since is the new song on the deluxe of his “The Second Wave” EP.
“WeWe” is already trending and if social media is anything to go by, then it’s the standout from the deluxe. With the anticipation of “Girlfriend,” you would think that’s the song everyone would gravitate towards. But on the contrary, another song has become the fan-favorite.
In a few weeks from now, we might see another explosion, with everyone enjoying “WeWe” like we did “Bounce.” It’s simple. The song is everything like “Bounce.” Same story. He wants a girl to dance for him (probably more than just dance, though) and what he did was say that in every language he understands from Yoruba to Hausa.
The song is straight to the point and you could play it all day and not get tired of it. Now that’s a hit. Maybe the search for another “Bounce” is finally over.
