In their decade-long careers, Olamide, Davido, and WizKid have literally been on top of the game.
Their music has broken records, set records, and still continues to break new grounds at home and abroad. They are indeed a blessing to the industry.
Olamide and WizKid debuted in 2011, putting out albums that became instant hits. That same year, they were both nominated for the Next Rated honor, which Wizkid won.
Davido came through about a year after, and also won the prestigious Next Rated award. His hit-making ability had become something of a well-known secret.
The three of them, separately of course, then went on to impact the industry in ways that have solidified their legendary statuses. Winning awards, making hits, making good albums, charting internationally, bagging endorsements, and getting accolades from everywhere.
They’re still very much active today and it doesn’t look like they’ll be slowing down soon. There’s a good chance that we get an album from the trio this year.
But perhaps one of the things that has even made Olamide and Davido a rave in the industry is how they have scouted some of the best artists in the country.
Olamide in 2014 signed Lil Kesh to his YBNL imprint, and as the most influential artist ever signed to the label, Lil Kesh quickly became an instant hit. Even today, the little clout that Kesh has is a result of his time at YBNL. He was really a beast then and we were lucky to have him.
On the other hand, Davido’s most talented signee is Mayorkun without a doubt. Mayorkun has been a menace in the industry for more than six years now, five of which were under Davido’s DMW record label. Without Davido, we probably wouldn’t know The Mayor of Lagos today.
But when it comes to Wizkid, it’s kind of a different story. Is there really any artist that we can say WizKid gave to the industry that’s on the same level as Mayorkun or Lil Kesh, either based on talent or success? Well, is there?
I personally don’t think there’s any even though Wizkid did try to do quite some stuff with his Starboy Records. I may be wrong, though.
The question remains
Olamide Gave Us Lil Kesh, Davido Gave Us Mayorkun, Who Did Wizkid Give Us?
