Nollywood actor Moses Armstrong has been arrested for allegedly raping a minor.
Confirming the arrest which occurred on June 9, the Police Command in Akwa Ibom through its PRO, SP Odiko Macdon issued a statement saying,
“The popular Nollywood actor and singer, Moses Armstrong, has been arrested by men of the Police Command for allegedly defiling a 16-year old girl in the state.
“We arrested the Suspect based on an initial complaint of rape. We have done our preliminary findings and the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) has taken over the case.”
He further explained that the suspect was no longer with the command, but taken to court on by the DPP and remanded accordingly.
Due to the situation of things, the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has announced the indefinite suspension of Moses Armstrong.
According to an official statement signed by the Guild’s national president Emeka Rollas, the decision to suspend the actor became imperative amid ongoing police investigation into the serious allegations of sexual assault.
In the suspension letter, Moses Armstrong’s suspension was based on facts emanating from the preliminary investigations conducted by the Guild on the allegation.
It states,
“Actors Guild of Nigeria has been in the forefront of advocacy against violation of women, such as rape, molestation and all form of abuse.
“Therefore, the allegation against Moses Armstrong is capable of tarnishing the good image and reputation of our noble Guild if urgent action is not taken in accordance with the constitutional provisions of the Guild.”
The national president of the body also stated that it is a sad development, but nobody is above the law, especially on rape and abuse of women.
He concluded stating that while on suspension the actor is not expected to participate in any film production or Guild activities.
