Surgeon, teacher, airline pilot, hedge fund manager, spy, and a long list of stressful professions that are absolutely not for me.
However! I can still appreciate a good spy thriller even though I personally cannot picture myself handling the high-stakes duties of an espionage operative. If you’re looking for an action-packed movie for your next movie night, I’ve got some recommendations that may make you want to apply for a CIA job yourself…or not. The finest spy movies offer all the thrill of secret investigations without any of the risk.
Below are 5 spy movies you should see;
1. Enemy of the state
The film tells the story of a group of corrupt National Security Agency (NSA) agents conspiring to kill a congressman and the cover-up that ensues after a tape of the murder ends up in the possession of an unsuspecting lawyer.
2. The Courier
The film stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Greville Wynne, and is based on the true story of a British businessman who was recruited by the Secret Intelligence Service to be a message conduit with a Russian spy source Oleg Penkovsky (played by Merab Ninidze) in the 1960s.
3. Mission Impossible fallout
Ethan Hunt and his IMF team, along with some familiar allies, race against time after a mission gone wrong.
4. Bourne Identity
It stars Matt Damon as Jason Bourne, a man suffering from psychogenic amnesia attempting to discover his identity amidst a clandestine conspiracy within the CIA. It also features Franka Potente, Chris Cooper, Clive Owen, Brian Cox, Walton Goggins, and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje.
5. Anna
In 1990, Anna, a young Russian beauty who has been the victim of domestic abuse, will do anything to escape the life she is trapped in. In a twist of fate, she reluctantly accepts an offer by KGB officer Alex.
