For their legendary contributions to the world of music, the honourees for the 2020 Songwriters Hall of Fame has been released, and this is coming two years after, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Some of those who made the list includes, Mariah Carey, The Neptunes, The Isley Brothers, who are among those being honoured for their well-respected pen game.
During her induction speech, Mariah Carey had to remind people about her resume.
The five-time Grammy winner said,
“I constantly have to remind people I’m a songwriter. It’s become a joke to the point where… Because they’re all onto the diva thing, it’s like ‘Oh my gosh, she’s a diva, wow, a diva.’ Whatever.”
Just so you know, Mariah Carey is now one of the thirty-three women to be inducted into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame out of four hundred and thirty-nine inductees, an honor she admittedly didn’t know existed growing up.
Before understanding a songwriter’s role in the industry, the singer says she always, “just assumed the person that you’re listening to on the radio was the one who wrote the song, thereby referring to songwriters as the “unsung heroes” of music.
Other legendary honorees for this year’s Songwriters Hall of Fame includes, Annie Lennox & Dave Stewart of Eurythmics, William ‘Mickey’ Stevenson, Rick Nowels, who wrote songs for artistes such as Lana Del Rey, Dua Lipa and John Legend, amongst others.
